Peace In The Middle East - It's a comin'
by scotoma infrom the un news centre (with breaking news from the un news service).
un officials hope observance of international year will lead to israeli-palestinian peace16 january 2014 the united nations today launched the international year of solidarity with the palestinian people, with senior officials urging that the observance be used to redouble efforts to achieve a durable peace between israel and palestine.. the coming year will be crucial to achieving the two-state solution, deputy secretary-general jan eliasson said in his remarks to the un general assemblys committee on the exercise of the inalienable rights of the palestinian people.. mr. eliasson said israeli and palestinian negotiators are working hard towards a peaceful, comprehensive settlement of all permanent status issues.
that means a settlement that ends the occupation that started in 1967 and which would end the conflict.. it also means securing an independent, viable and sovereign state of palestine living alongside a secure state of israel, where each side recognizes the others legitimate rights, he added.. the secretary-general and i urge all in the international community to work together to translate the solidarity and desire for peace expressed on this occasion into positive action for security and for justice.. last november, the general assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming 2014 as the international year of solidarity with the palestinian people, and requested the committee to organize activities around the observance.. general assembly president john ashe told todays meeting that he hoped the year leads to robust support for the people of palestine.

Super Tasty Kool Aid Flavored WT Study this Weekend!
by LostGeneration inwould love to hear comments on what is being said on the paragraph which states that if the wt demands you drink the kool aid, you should do it - even if you don't understand why!.
.
look forward to any replies..

I sent a quote of this paragraph to both my parents, just after Cedar posted an article about it on jwsurvey.
My father has not responded to a single email in over a year.
My mom's response? "Don't worry, we won't drink the Kool-Aid..."
My reply: "What will you do? Maybe you should discuss with Dad, what your limits are in this situation. It sounds like a threat to me."
(no reply)

I have been in another phase of JW encounters lately. It is almost like the Twilight Zone... In the last 3 days, I have run into a JW every single day.
I saw my Bible teacher, her daughter, and another acquaintance from the Kingdom Hall we attended. I had friendly conversations with each of them, and while it was nice to see that the word doesn't seem to be spreading that I am a danger to them (as part of Satan's army), I feel I have failed each of them.
I would really be interested in striking up a conversation about the current WT (November 2013) magazine with a JW, in passing.
Does anyone have any ideas for a casual question that could be posed to a JW in passing?

To the gullible jw who beleive (worship) the GB
by bobld inin this weeks wt study p20 para 17 the gb directive in part says "all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not".
it behooves me,how anyone would obey such an organization, when you were told to preach and exhort people with a message(bible doctrine) for over a hundred years(and not question the message or the gb) only to find out the message was false.see wt july 15,2013 p8.-great tribulation did not begin in 1914.judgement of the sheep and goats did not begin in 1914.jesus arrival to appoint the faithful slave did not occur in 1919.wt 1984,1914 the generation that will not pass away.. in your clean christian conscience are you willing to obey such a vacillating organization.the proper thing to do is resign from this organization.
go apolize to the people for misleading them with a false message(doctrine).go preach the true gospel of jesus christ..

BU2B: "Even if we die while being obedient, at least we will get a resurection for being faithful. Jehovah can reverse the damage" :(
Wow. Very sad and scary. Does she have a limit, as to what she would not do in order to remain obedient?
I asked my parents about this paragraph in the November Watchtower, and got the response: "Don't worry, we won't drink the Kool-Aid."
I followed up with the question, "What would you do? You might want to discuss with Dad, what your limits are in this scenario."
(Of course, this question was posed a few months ago... they might have since decided they should drink the Kool-Aid... If that is what Jehovah wants them to do...)

a "worldly" (gasp) Catholic just showed my huaband what true integrity is
by nonjwspouse inhe was a tenant of ours in 2009 on a visa, but was unaware of all the rules, such as checking in with any new address.
after some time, although hardworking, he lost his job and began getting behind in rent.
he promised to keep paying as much as he could.

My sister's decision to ex-communicate me, just might rock the boat!
by Faithful Witness init was 11 days after i received the email from my sister, informing me that she is no longer going to communicate with me.. i was never a jw, so i don't fully comprehend this decision, nor do i understand the games jw's play.. i talked to my mom yesterday, and she (baptized within last year) is getting more and more fed up with the nonsense.
she has been trying to get everyone to come together, and she is seeing more and more extreme behavior from my sister and her husband.
my mom is blaming my brother in law, but my sister has clearly spoken up and said she is speaking for herself also.

Any further questions I have for her, will not be answered. She has cut off communication. You have all raised some good points.
Oubliette: She claims she is "protecting her children." When I asked her what she had to protect them from at my house, she said, "You know, idolatry. Apostasy." I kept asking her what specifically she was talking about, but she couldn't really answer. This was last year, when it was revealed to the family that we could not have the family party at my house again, because they won't come here anymore. She has now expanded the decision to include "communicating with me."
problemaddict: I am hoping that my mom will wake up. The situation is very complicated for her, being torn between her daughters. If that weren't enough, add in the JW control over her. I'm doing my best, and feel like I've made some progress over the past few months. She emails and sends me text messages... that is a big improvement!
BibleStudent: Thanks for the video. I will see if I can find a way to get her to watch it, without striking her with fear. In the recent past, she has accused me of "attacking the witnesses."
WhatHappened: I brought up the parable of the Good Samaritan in my phone call with her! I simply said, "I don't remember Jesus shunning the non-Jews. Remember the parable of the Good Samaritan? You're supposed to love your neighbor." She agreed, and said how she thought my brother in law is acting the opposite way from how he should.
Scully: You hit it right on the head! It has never been a secret that he controls her, and it was so obvious when the JW's came along and he immediately jumped into it and pulled her out of all the family holidays, etc. I'm not sure how I can help her in this situation. Maybe my mom could, but my sister has told me that she would shun my mom if she didn't stick with the JW's either.
I plan to continue a relationship with my mom, and let her see that I am being reasonable. Even though we were on the phone, I could tell she was pretty mad to hear that my sister did not accept the gifts to my niece and nephew. I had checked with my mom about whether to send them something or not, and she thought it would be ok.
I talked to my mom yesterday, and they had their meeting tonight. I wonder how that went... I think my mom might be afraid to confront my brother in law, as much as we all are. I'm not sure.

If my mother even attempts to make a move or ask a question, this could get interesting.
She has a special relationship with my niece, so she probably knows better than to risk it.
